If you own and operate a business in 29016, you really should consider
joining the Blythewood Buiness Coalition. Eventually we will turn
into a Chamber of commerce, and this is one of goals for 2005 -
and like a chamber, we exist to help each other and our community
as a whole. Each year we pool our resources, solicit sponsors and
host the Blythewood Christmas parade. In 2004 the sponsors affored
this event to be free to the parade entrants and funded 3 one thousand
dollar scholarships we gave out in May of 2005. This year we intend
to do the same thing - except bigger and better.
We meet monthly on the second Tuesday at Southern Pig BBQ at 7:30am
for breakfast. Usually a speaker presents on a subject that has
an impact on local area businesses, or we use the meeting as a working
session to plan our community events and scholarship program.
Each year we offer scholarships to college bound high school seniors.
These scholarship have been offered in years past for $1000 per
recipient uo to $1500 per recipient.
In 2005 we offered 3 scholarships at $1000 each to
Katherine Snipes, Erin Busbee and Bonna Bass from nine applicants.
The awards were made based on applications in which three judges
assessed the Need, Scholastic Achievent, and personal Involvement
